2319: InnerSpeaker

2319: InnerSpeaker

As we age, our lives undergo profound shifts physically, mentally, and spiritually. Our bodies transform—sometimes welcoming these changes, other times struggling against them. We gain weight, lose weight, find energy, lose energy. Emotionally, we journey through peaks of joy and valleys of introspection. Spiritually, we often find ourselves at crossroads, embracing religious beliefs or exploring new realms of understanding, seeking something deeper to anchor us amidst life's uncertainties.

Lately, I've become particularly attuned to my mental evolution through my changing relationship with music, especially when deeply focused. Instrumental depth has become more meaningful to me. There's something incredibly powerful about immersing myself in music that has no words—only raw emotion expressed through instruments. Each resonant strike of the bass guitar, each lingering note, pulls me deeper into whatever complex subject I'm studying, like immunology. It’s as though the music itself is encouraging me, challenging me to explore further, to understand better.

One album that embodies this emotional resonance is "InnerSpeaker" by Tame Impala, released on May 21st, 2010. Listening to it from start to finish is an immersive journey—each track seamlessly flowing into the next, every note carefully crafted and emotionally charged. The passion within the album is tangible, almost as if you can reach out and touch it. A live version, introduced to me by Ahmad Wilson, amplifies this connection. Hearing the raw authenticity of the instruments tuning, feeling the energy rise as the musicians pour their hearts out, playing until the strings seem ready to snap, is an experience of pure euphoria—beautiful, powerful, and deeply moving.

Music has a profound way of articulating emotions we often find hard to voice ourselves. Lyrics may guide our thoughts, but the melody's emotional undertone—whether aggressive, joyful, melancholic, or energizing—is what resonates within us, painting our experiences in vivid emotional colors.

My own "inner speaker" continues to search for that perfect melody, one that defines who I am or perhaps who I'm becoming. Maybe someday I'll find clarity and finally "make up my mind," or maybe, like the song gently questions, it will remain a beautiful, ongoing exploration.

This week, I encourage you to reflect on your own "inner speaker." Take some time to explore instrumental music, discover what resonates deeply with you, and allow yourself the space to feel and grow. You might just uncover a melody that speaks to you in ways words never could.

Peace,

Zechariah Davis
