2319: Running, Cooking, & Beyond

Hey Friends,
Good Morning & Welcome!
Good morning and welcome to another edition of my newsletter! I've been rethinking my posting format lately, and I’m excited to share the new plan with you. Each month, I’ll kick things off by outlining my intentions, goals, and new experiments, then wrap up with a reflective look at how it all went. February will be our first month with this fresh structure, so expect a blend of narrative posts, a few inspirational quotes, and even the occasional song recommendation!
Reflecting on January
January was a bit of a rollercoaster—not the smoothest ride, but it did end on a high note. I set a personal goal that wasn’t exactly a New Year’s resolution but something deeply meaningful: to run more. I’ve always had an athletic side, even though my focus shifted to strength training over the years, letting my cardio fade into the background. Rediscovering the joy of running this month has been incredibly motivating.
Rediscovering My Running Passion
For the past three weeks, I made it a point to run a mile with my good friend Ahmad—an avid distance runner who effortlessly warms up with three or four miles. For me, that single mile represents a major win, especially considering I used to run just once every six months. This newfound consistency has rekindled my love for running. With February on the horizon, I’m aiming to double my effort: a total of six miles with a target pace of 7- to 8-minute miles. Every step reminds me that progress is a journey, no matter how small it starts.
Culinary Adventures: A Taste of Home
Alongside my running journey, I’ve been exploring the culinary world. I challenged myself to cook more at home and cut back on eating out. Even during winter break, when I stayed in, I managed to enjoy home-cooked meals almost every day. I did venture out a couple of times with Russell and Josuf, two of my closest friends, and we discovered that even when we eat out, it’s possible to choose options that are fulfilling. Back at school, however, I delighted in cooking up a variety of dishes: pot roast, baked chicken, taco soup, and my new favorite—white chili. These meals have transformed my evenings after long days of classes and studying, adding a comforting end to each day.
Looking Ahead: Goals for February
With January behind me, I’m stepping into February with clear goals and renewed energy. Whether it’s running a bit further or whipping up another delicious recipe, every small win adds up. I hope that by sharing my journey, you feel inspired to set your own goals—big or small—and enjoy the process of making progress.
Until next time, have a phenomenal day and keep pushing forward, LFG!
Peace,
Zechariah Davis
