2319: Time

2319: Time

Happy Friday!

Yesterday reminded me that my patience might not be quite as strong as I'd like to believe. Generally, I see myself as calm, cool, and collected, but that doesn't mean I never experience moments of frustration or impatience. Usually, these feelings build up internally until a small trigger sets them off—often unfairly directed at the wrong person.

Let me share a quick story. This past Thursday, I decided to grab lunch for my younger sister, my mom, and myself. My sister agreed to tag along and ended up driving us. We chose Chick-fil-A, and being a fan of convenience (and points), I ordered through the app as we got ready. Noticing my sister hadn't ordered yet, I asked her impatiently, "Did you order yet?" When she said no, I felt my irritation rise instantly. She responded, "You're impatient."

It's something I've heard before from friends and family. This time, though, I paused and reflected: was my sister right? Yes, I realized—I made her feel rushed for no good reason. We weren't going to magically appear at Chick-fil-A faster by ordering a few minutes earlier. My impatience didn't speed anything up; it only caused unnecessary tension.

This experience highlighted a deeper truth: it's easy to crave immediate gratification, especially in a world where convenience is king. While having desires and striving for quick results isn't inherently bad, life rarely operates on our preferred timeline. Patience is about accepting that things happen in their own time, guided by forces greater than our immediate wants.

Here's an actionable insight: Next time you find yourself becoming impatient, pause and ask, "Will my frustration actually speed things up, or will it simply create unnecessary stress?" Choose patience and kindness—both towards others and yourself. Embrace the waiting period as an opportunity to practice calmness, gratitude, and trust that everything unfolds exactly when it's meant to.

Peace,
