2319: Back in tha game
Hey Friends,
Happy (slightly belated) New Year, Merry Christmas, and Happy Hanukkah to everyone who celebrates! It’s been a while—three months since my last post. What began as a quick two-week break spiraled into a season of lost motivation, and for a moment, I couldn’t figure out how to reignite my passion. Writing was my weekly ritual: I’d reflect on what happened, let my thoughts flow, and see what emerged on the page.
Looking back, I realize I was running from a challenge—a new chance to grow. After spending nearly a year in overdrive preparing for the MCAT and med school, I’d convinced myself I had to give up vital parts of who I am, especially my social side. But as we get older, seeing friends less often doesn’t have to mean losing them. My closest friends and I still connect through gaming, chatting on Discord, and catching up over a few rounds. It’s a small but important way we keep each other close, despite our busy lives. This year, I’m determined to stay consistent with that, because sometimes the best recharge comes from doing what you love with the people who matter most.
Another big focus for me is welcoming uncertainty. Early on in this newsletter, I wrote about how uncertainty holds immense potential. Life will knock you down sometimes, but growth happens when you stand back up—when you decide not to stay in that low place. Over the past three months, I wrestled with how to revive my routine without overwhelming myself. What I discovered was a simple shift in perspective: whether I reap the rewards right away or see them down the line, every single effort is bringing me closer to my ultimate goals. That realization eased my anxiety and lifted a huge weight off my shoulders.
I hope everyone had a great holiday season and is settling back into work, school, or simply day-to-day life. Be kind to yourself—every step forward, no matter how small, is progress. I’m excited to get back into writing regularly; I’ve missed it more than I ever thought I would. When I started this newsletter, I had no idea where it might lead, but it’s become a journey I truly cherish.
Thank you for sticking with me through the ups and downs. Here’s to a year of fresh starts, embracing the unknown, and rising to every challenge that comes our way. Stay tuned for weekly posts—together, let’s see where this road takes us!
Peace,
Zechariah Davis
