2319: New Year, New Me
Hey Friends,
As I embark on a new chapter this year, I'm experimenting with my writing ritual. Traditionally, I've always had a bag of Skittles, Lemonheads, or gummy worms by my side while writing. But in the spirit of embracing change, I've switched to raisins - a fond snack from my youth. It's funny how we often return to our old favorites, echoing Thanos's words, "Where did that lead you? Back to me."
Nostalgia strikes me again as I reminisce about the era of wired headphones. They're still around, much like the overlooked candy at the back of the store, yet thereβs a unique charm about them. So, I've set a personal goal for 2024: to acquire a pair of wired Apple headphones. It's curious how some things, like the simple inclusion of headphones with a new phone, have become relics of the past.
As I write this, we're just four days into 2024, but by the time you read it, we'll be five days in. Recently, I caught up with close friends and admitted my early anticipation for Christmas. Yes, I'm one of those people who revels in the Christmas spirit. Reuniting with family after a long absence brings unparalleled joy.
2024, I sense, is a year of abundance and prosperity. But beyond my professional ambition of becoming an Interventional Radiologist, Urologist, or Orthopedic Surgeon, I ponder a deeper question: Who do I aspire to be?
Reflecting on my identity reveals many roles: son, brother, cousin, nephew, grandson, friend, line brother, classmate, and student. Last year, I focused intensely on being a student, a dedication I believe will propel me toward my goals. However, I recognize that nurturing other aspects of myself could further enrich my journey. One area for improvement is my temperament, particularly with my family. This realization, though late in 2023, has inspired a commitment to practice patience and understanding.
In 2024, my resolve is to truly embrace myself and others, accepting everyone's unique traits without judgment. Listening more and speaking less is a virtue that can never be overstated. So, as we all ponder on how to manifest "New year, New me," let's remember that genuine change often starts with understanding and patience - both with ourselves and with those around us.
